About this event

Women Who Talk to the Dead - In Person Presentation – November 11th

Beneath the soil of Detroit's county cemeteries lie hundreds of murder victims — buried anonymously, their killers never charged, their families left for decades not knowing what happened. Then two women set out to change that: launching the largest exhumation effort in FBI history to identify 200 forgotten victims and finally give them a name.

Join us in person on Wednesday, November 11th at 6:30 pm at Microsoft offices in Burlington, MA to hear former FBI Special Agent and bestselling author Katherine Schweit share the highlights of her riveting book Women Who Talk to the Dead.

Katherine will take us inside that extraordinary investigation — the rain-soaked cemetery digs, the crumbling case files, the skepticism and bureaucratic roadblocks — and introduces us to Detroit Police Detective Shannon Jones and FBI Special Agent Leslie Larsen, who built a team of female forensic anthropologists, scientists, and investigators to bring closure to families who had waited decades for answers.

Part forensic procedural, part story of justice long delayed, this is a gripping true-crime account of what it takes — and who it takes — to make sure the forgotten are not forgotten forever.

The New York Times' Devlin Barrett calls Katherine's book a haunting account of what it takes to give victims' families something more important than closure — answers.
